A very important usage of vibratory part feeders is for accurately counting of small parts like plastic caps, spouts, screws, rivets, capsules and electrical connectors, bearings, as well as heavy parts such as anchor bolts, bearing races and metal sockets. The standard equipment consists of a suitable vibratory bowl feeder, a sensing device and an electronic reset able counter. The counter can be even upto 10 digits and even more in case of special requirements. Counting speeds can be very high, depending upon the component which requires counting and the accuracy required. Once a preset number is reached, the counting can be made to stop automatically. Restart can be either manually or again automatically on receiving of a Signal. This equipment finds use in various industries, namely, cosmetic, electrical, mechanical, pharmaceutical, optical, bearing and many other industries. Accuracy of counting can be 100%. This is very low cost highly accurate equipment compared to counting by way of weighing.

One innovative use of vibratory bowl feeders is to use them for automating riveting machines. Here the rivets are fed through a vibratory bowl feeder to the riveting station. The other part (spring, strip etc.) can either be placed manually or automatically from another vibratory bowl feeder. Alternatively, the strip can be fed through a de-reeler and cut as per the requirement and fed automatically. At the riveting point, the riveting takes place and the completed riveted assembly is blow out or removed manually as the case might be. For this a riveting machine has to be mounted on a specially designed platform. Other options which are possible are checking of the spring / strip etc. before riveting, counting of the number of pieces riveted, automatic stoppage of machine when a wrong rivet / spring is fed etc. This type of automation can be used in various industries like switchgear and contactor manufacturing industry. Productivity increases tremendously with the usage of this type of automation. Not only does it eliminate / reduce labour but also the production as well as consistency of the component is increased tremendously.

Elscint Automation has developed a innovative Rotary Feeder for feeding of coins. Various Coins having different thickness and diameters can be fed through the same Rotary Feeder with slight changeover tooling. The Rotary Feeder has a rugged design and is made in cast iron and lined with suitable material for better rigidity. An AC geared motor of Elscint make having variable speed is used. This helps adjust the feeding speed according to the actual requirement of the user. The advantage in case of a rotary feeder as against a vibratory parts feeder is that rotary feeders work at much higher speeds and thus a better feed rate can be achieved. Other parts that can be fed through a rotary feeder are bottle caps, cylindrical rollers, needle rollers etc.

Flare Nuts require to be fed to flaring machines. The hex head and the threading size in most cases of the flare nuts is the same and this makes orientation of the flare nuts rather difficult. However, Elscint even manufactures a Vibratory Bowl Feeder for feeding of Flare Nuts to Flaring Machines in double rows! Elscint has a lot of expertise in feeding of Flare Nuts and in this type of Vibratory Bowl Feeder, two rows of Flare Nuts can be fed side by side in separate orientation in each row. This gives more output and eliminates the need of a separate Bowl Feeder when two rows of Flare Nuts are required. Further from the orientation of the flare nuts can be different in each of these rows. Feed Rates or the speeds that can be achieved can be as high as 300 Pieces Per Minute.

Flare Nuts require to be fed to flaring machines. The hex head and the threading size in most cases of the flare nuts is the same and this makes orientation of the flare nuts rather difficult. However, Elscint has developed a unique type of bowl wherein Flare Nuts having head across flat equal to the threading can also be fed in the required direction at a very good speed. For this, either the Elscint Vibratory Bowl Feeder Model 250 or Model 400 can be used. Feed Rates or the speeds that can be achieved can be as high as 120 Pieces Per Minute. Further accessories like pneumatic escapement, stands, auto-switch off mechanism etc. can be provided to make the working convenient and easy for the operator.

Bowl feeders are regularly required for feeding of Plastic Caps, mainly for feeding to Automatic Capping Machines as well other Special Pharmaceutical and Consumer Goods feeding Machines. These caps have to be oriented in one particular direction, which can either be Open side facing Sky or Open Side facing Ground or even the open side facing center of the Bowl or away from it. Speeds in such cases are very high, in the region of 60 to 300 pieces Per minute depending upon the size of the Plastic Cap. Caps of even upto diameter 120 mm or more can be fed in a vibratory bowl feeder. In most cases, in addition to a bowl feeder, a gravity track is required for taking the caps from the bowl to the conveyor / capping station which the cap is placed on the bottle. Further a stand too is required for mounting of the bowl feeder

Chain circlips need to be fed during the assembly of chains at a very high speed. However, they also have a tendency of getting entangled. Hence Elscint has developed a Vibratory Bowl Feeder in which this problem is solved in an innovative way without even the usage of air. Consequently, the feed rate or speed that can be achieved is very high and there is no jamming of components in the track even if the outlet is closed / chute is full. This eliminates the requirement of having a Sensor for stopping the Vibratory Bowl Feeder every time the outlet chute is full.

Chains links are a very small part where the orientation is difficult and the required feed rate or speed is also very high (upto 300 pieces per minute). Not only is their orientation very difficult as there is very less difference between the two ends but the links being very flat and thin (0.60 mm in thickness) makes it doubly difficult. However, Elscint Automation (www.elscintautomation.com) has developed a Vibratory Bowl Feeder, which not only orients the links in the correct manner but also feeds them at a very high speed. The outer track is made in such a way to ensure that there is an overflow which means that there is no jamming of components in the track even if the outlet is closed / chute is full. This eliminates the requirement of having a Sensor for stopping the Vibratory Bowl Feeder every time the outlet chute is full.

Normally Vibratory Bowl Feeders are made for either Bolts or Nuts due to the intrinsic nature of the tooling required for each type of component. However, Elscint has developed a special type of Vibratory Bowl Feeder which can feed various types of Nuts and Bolts in the same Vibratory Bowl Feeder with slight changeover tooling. Bolts from size M 4 to M 14 and Nuts from M4 to M30 can be fed through the same Vibratory Bowl Feeder. This helps fastener manufacturers attain a lot of flexibility and adaptability with regard to the Vibratory Bowl Feeders. The changeover tooling is made in such a way that a range of bolts and nuts are fed in the same bowl feeder. The outlet of the nuts is blocked while feeding the bolts and while feeding the bolts, the outlet of the nuts is blocked. This makes the changeover tooling very easy.
