Feeding of large parts in a bowl feeder is always difficult, firstly as the number of components which can be accommodated in the bowl is less and secondly the speed or feed rate is less. Hence, for feeding large components, many times a different type of vibratory equipment is required. Taking the example of half bearings, these can be upto dia 90 mm or even more. For feeding and orienting these half bearings an innovative system can be designed. Feeding of very light plastic parts in a vibratory bowl feeder is quite difficult. Such parts do not have much weight which makes them very difficult to orient. They do not stand up and even if they do, they have a tendency to fall off. Using air for orientation too is difficult as both the correct as well as wrongly oriented parts fall off. Hence, for tooling bowls for such light weight parts, special care has to be taken and they require to be tooled by very skilled bowl toolers. Of course, having experience in tooling such a part in the past definitely helps and hence it always better to get your bowl tooled from a reputed manufacturer who has had a wide variety of experience in tooling such light weight parts. Feeding of very small parts in a vibratory bowl feeder is quite difficult. There is no specific minimum component size beyond which the parts cannot be fed. However, in case of small parts, not only is the orientation difficult but also in most cases, one requires a magnifying glass to even see the parts properly. Designing a bowl to suit such parts is difficult as the bowl has to be very small and secondly, fabrication of such a small bowl is very difficult as it requires a highly skilled bowl tooler. Hence, it is easier and better to use a machined bowl for such applications. However, most bowl feeder manufacturers do not have the facilities and the know how to manufacture such small machined bowls and hence it is better to work with a vibratory bowl feeder manufacturer who has such facility and expertise.
